MCP – The Wessex Girl
OK, She’s a SIII lightweight, but she’s MINE!! You can see the condition that I bought her in – from a PO in the Sheffield area. He had known her from shortly after demob when a chap local to him had bought her as a completed “Steve Parker” conversion – that is, She’s got the Ford Essex 3.0 ltr V6 engine, with overdrive and twin fuel tanks.
As you can see, having bought her in 2006, I carried out a full strip down, fortunately to a sound Chassis which only needed a replacement cross-member. As with all lightweights, sourcing the bulkhead top was a nightmare, until on a different forum, I found a chap near Exeter who had a brand new top which he let me have for £100 – a real bargain, as market value was closer to £400!
I did the spray paint myself, using 2-pack U.S. Airforce blue as the main colour, picked out with Le Mans blue for the interior, wheel rims and that bulkhead top.
All wheel bearings / oil seals were replaced, and a completely new braking system was fabricated and installed – a subject of compliments from all MOT testers since.
This is a sweet Landy, refurbed for my long suffering wife, and probably the high point in my working with Land rovers. – and not only does she sound great with the huge stainless steel exhaust, that V^ pushes her along beautifully. The overdrive completes the job!
