The Series 2 Club is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of all Land-Rover models built between 1958 and 1971. This includes the 2a and 2b forward control models as well as all 2 and 2a models of the standard Land-Rover. We are a friendly, non-competitive club with a family orientated approach. Occasionally we like to get muddy, but events where this happens are designed to be non-damaging and are therefore suitable for cherished restored vehicles or family hacks, though the Club does not accept any responsibility for damage howsoever caused. In addition to all this we publish a regular club magazine called "Built Two Last".
There are a number of benefits and reasons why joining the Club is a good idea.
(You don't have to actually own a Series 2, just be an enthusiast or supporter of the S2 models.)
Here are some of the main advantages of club membership:-
- 4 issues of Built Two Last delivered to your door...(worth £4 each)
- Many insurance companies will give a discount if you belong to the appropriate car club. The S2C has an arrangement with Footman James, where S2C members are offered a discount on their premiums. In some cases what you save on insurance pays the S2C subscription!
- Several parts/service providers offer a discount to club members ( Imperial Tools, Richards Chassis, Dingocroft, Fascinating Finishes).
- We are able to help with various aspects of vehicle registration...Club members get preferential treatment and a discount on the chassis plates and other charges. Please note that a small fee and travel expenses (UK based) have to be charged for vehicle inspections.
a) Confirmation of build date.
b) Age related registration numbers.
c) Re-registering vehicles no longer on the DVLA database, the V765 scheme.
d) The S2C is recognised by DVLA as the "expert" body regarding Series 2 Land Rovers.
e) Provision of authentic chassis plates.
- The opportunity to "show" your Landy on the club display stand at all the major Land Rover shows. The club is often able to offer discounted tickets/camping passes in return for displaying your vehicle and helping on the club stand (on a first come first served basis). Note - it is not a requirement that your vehicle be pristinely restored or of great historic importance. Any Series 2 is welcome no matter how battered, but it must be a legitimate S2 and road legal etc.
- The club holds a database of Series 2s that have passed through members' ownership. Over time this is growing and members are able to enquire of a vehicle they may be about to purchase, or one they once owned, (it is only with the current owner's permission that the Historical Records officer will pass on information). This can also help in the recovery of stolen vehicles and may act as a deterrent (vehicle sticker) from theft, as the vehicle is known to the club. The scheme is entirely voluntary and not conditional for club membership.
- The club organises many local pub meetings all over the country, often on a monthly basis. A chance to meet fellow owners and talk old Land Rovers over a pint and a pie.
- The club organises various road run events. This might be a combination of green lanes/fording/or country lanes. The routes are many and varied...but non-damaging.
- The club shop sells a range of Land Rover Series 2 merchandise and clothing.
- The club organises an annual International Rally, a camping weekend event for all the family. Your chance to see Series 2 Land Rovers doing what they do best in a field and lots more.
- The S2C club is an affiliate or associate member of the following organisations:- the Association of Land Rover Clubs, the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, the Green Lane Association and is a DVLA listed club. These organisations promote, lobby and fight to support the not insignificant classic vehicle industry. By being an S2C member you are indirectly helping to secure the future of your hobby.
Fees are currently £21.00 for UK membership (covers 2 adults at the same address), and overseas membership is £26.00 (covers 2 adults at the same address), please note there is an enrolement fee of £5 (payable on first joining the club).
