Picture of the Month

Every month the Webmaster will select a picture from those submitted (contact the Webmaster) to feature as Picture of the Month. We are looking for interesting pictures of Series 2s and related subjects working, playing or doing interesting things not just the usual vehicle pictures, which can still be submitted for the Gallery.

March 2008

Wow! This Series 2A Forward Control Is seen here powering up some superb dunes in New Zealand. I've got to get one of those!

Previous Months

August 2005

This month's picture shows a group of club members laning in the Peak District on a typical English summer evening!

September 2005

After the phenomenal success of our second Club International Rally there could be no other candidate for Picture of the Month than this group picture of those attending with their Series 2s. Can you spot yourself?

October 2005

This picture shows Dan Warden's mighty One Ton 109 gingerly picking its way along an interesting Derbyshire green lane. Despite its size the One Ton shows off its axle articulation prowess. In the background a Series 2 88" waits patiently for the lane to clear before descending.

November 2005

This fantastic picture of Richard Bilbe's Series 2a seen on a Berkshire green lane was taken back in the summer. The poppies provide a timely reminder for all of us that the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal is upon us again. "Lest we forget."

December 2005

This first proper snowfall of the winter has not deterred the hardy members of the Series 2 Club. Here Phil Gregson braves both the weather and the darkness on a green lane between the A6 and King Sterndale. Thanks Phil!

Christmas 2005

Merry Christmas from the Airedales of Wales!

January 2006

This is Gordie doing a passable impression of a hippo on the Bran Estate in Scotland, where he enjoyed a fantastic day's off-roading in the snow over the Christmas break. Hopefully we will all see some snow this year.

February 2006

Simon Maltby has taken this fantastic atmospheric picture taken on a frosty country lane in Cumbria.

March 2006

Dave Hall and friends at Eldon Quarry in Derbyshire travelling along Dirtlow Rake. What fantastic landscape almost reminiscent of a mini version of the Grand Canyon! This is a good example of a sustainable lane being used responsibly. Keep up the good work guys.

April 2006

A beautiful picture that breaks all the rules; back lit, quite dark and not sharply in focus. Yet it has a fascinating atmosphere about it with plenty of movement and clearly showing a Series 2 in its element. Thanks to Dave Hall again. That's two in a row from Dave. Next month we will have to let someone else have a go.

May 2006

Here is another watery shot, this time submitted by Rowan Gay our South West Area Organiser, showing his 2a going through a water-splash on a beautiful sustainable Devon byway in the spring sunshine. Sadly due to Royal Assent being given to the NERC Bill scenes like this will become increasingly rare.

June 2006

A Dormobile on the Mojave trail in Southern California. This trail was the primary wagon train trail to bring early settlers through the Mojave desert to the Southern California coast. Kindly submitted By TerriAnn Wakeman from California USA.

July 2006

This is Petunia, enjoying a trundle along a green lane adjacent to flowering oilseed rape.

August 2006

Kevin Mills' Series 2 is shown here taking a little shade on a scorching hot day. There's nothing quite like driving your 2 along country lanes with the roof removed. Just watch out for bumble bees!

September 2006

The Series 2 Club International Rally was again a phenomenal success. Here is the group photo from the weekend. We managed to include 88 Land Rovers (well 87 and 1 Series 2 ToyLander). This photograph most summed up what people felt about the Rally; good fun and camaraderie for all. For more pictures of the International click here.

October 2006

Wow! What a picture! "Washing the Motor..." Bess under the Skogafoss waterfall in southern Iceland this summer... Thanks to Dave Bescoby.

November 2006

South West Area Organiser, Rowan Gay, takes a trip along a lane above the Lower Tamar Valley in the autumn mist. Summer is now a distant memory but the wetter weather has not yet prevented easy access into the country.

December 2006

Early winter snowfall and watery sun in Lincolnshire make for an apt photograph for December.

Christmas 2006

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph are unwell. So Santa relies on his trusty Series 2A. But first...check the oil and water!

January 2007

The Yorkshire Area of the Club enjoy some New Year laning in stunning countryside.

February 2007

Another one from the Yorkshire gang. This one needs no comment. Just brilliant!

March 2007

Chris Lovely-Scott was out for an early morning drive in his Marshall Ambulance bodied 109 called "Oddjob", when he happened upon this ford. Naturally he took it slowly to prevent any unnecessary splashing!

April 2007

Probably the oldest Series 2 known to exist, a.k.a. "Sweep" being towed to a place of restoration by Alan Jones' Montego Prima powered 88 called "Foxie". On the way they visited the site of this year's International Rally, Kelmarsh in Northamptonshire.

May 2007

Dave Hall has been at it again, this time capturing his Series 2A together with a Deltic Class 55 locomotive in the background. Two superb engineering contempories one picture. Well done once again.

June 2007

Ian McFarlane took this picture of his Series 2A while out on the "Tour de Fife", which was part of the Scottish All Rover Weekend attended by the Club. The photograph was taken just east of Loch Glow looking North with Loch Leven just visible on the right hand side. Looks like the weather was superb!

July 2007

Here is a great shot of Richard Bilbe's LPG powered 88 while on a recent trip to Mid Wales taking in some superb scenery. What a superb view! Who needs to travel abroad with views like this?

August 2007

Phil Gregson recently returned from a three and a half thousand mile trip to Hungary in his Series 2A. He travelled through twelve different countries including Romania. This picture shows Phil's Land Rover near the summit of the Transfagaran High way in the Transylvanian Alps. Dracula, fortunately, never troubled Phil at any time! Well done!

September 2007

Phew! What a terrible summer we've had! This superb photograph from Chris Bailey gives an impression of the rain experienced in many parts of the United Kingdom. Hopefully we will eventually get some drier weather. Thanks anyway Chris.

October 2007

A slightly different picture is submitted this month by Ben Williams, showing Tony Lucey's 109 FFR enjoying a little deep wading on a particularly wet section at the Abingdon 4x4 Show. Looking at the tide mark up the side I guess the passenger got his feet wet.

November 2007

Phil Gregson has been away on his travels again, lucky man, and has taken this fantastically atmospheric picture of his Series 2 deep in the interior of Morocco. This just goes to prove you don't need the latest 110 G4 vehicle to undertake even quite serious expeditions. Well done Phil!

December 2007

It may be December and the nights are cold and dark, but the lights are on in the workshop as members continue to fettle their Landies. Thanks to our Borders correspondent, Simon Maltby, for this one.

January 2008

A lovely picture here showing light winter snow and a watery sunset in the Scottish Borders.

February 2008

He's done it again with another lovely picture. Taken up high on the Yorkshire Dales in beautiful late winter sunshine. Thanks to Dave Hall.

Some of these pictures are available in the Club's new 2007 calendar available from the Club Shop.
