On Her Majesty's Service.

Royal Rovers

Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family have been faithful patrons of Land Rover for very many years. Land Rovers have often been used as transport on Royal visits as well. Here we see a selection of pictures taken on 29th June 1961 on a Royal visit to MacTaggart Scott & Co. Ltd, Loanhead, Scotland.

Many thanks to Ian McFarlane for these wonderful pictures.

Part of the route was taken by Land Rover, borrowed from Patrick Prenter.

In case of bad weather a framework with a transparent material was put over the vehicle

For safety a grab rail was also added.....

.....as well as some steps for a dignified entry and exit.

The framework was un-needed as the day proved to be scorching all day.

This vehicle had already had an interesting life, having been to Nepal with the 1960 Oxford Expedition.

In this picture you can clearly see the additional fuel cans attached to the front wings.

After the visit the vehicle left the United Kingdom for South Persia with the owner.

Did 6525 NA ever return to the UK? Does anyone know of its whereabouts?

If anyone has any other pictures of Series 2s with members of the Royal Family please contact the Webmaster. Does anyone have any pictures of HM The Queen driving a Series 2?
