It's the same belt as the 2.25 alternator one.

Hi Neil
Yep Jim will know that he runs a land rover restoration business.  He had a spare that didnt fit.  The one that failed is less than 3 months old and they were in the middle of nowhere.  Someone made a 180 mile round trip to sort them out bu all is well now

... been driving around Scotland in mine on and off since mid 90's and never broken one while driving ... but I always carry one or two under the passenger seat, because I don't know if there are any places I could stop and pick one up over the counter these days, even in Glasgow or Inverness. Having said that, I bet my spare is more than 10 years old and might die itself within 5 miles if I ever actually used it. Maybe time to buy a fresh new spare!

Aways a good idea to carry a spare fan belt, they don't take up any room.

I buy 2 belts, fit one and keep one as a spare under the seat - so it's away from the light and engine heat.
I only buy branded belts.

For the LWT which runs a double pulley - that's 4 belts to purchase, to give 2 spares.

And whilst you may never break a belt in transit - a fellow owner may and you can help them out ^^^

People say you only need a mobile phone and an AA card as your breakdown strategy.
Wrong - you should at least carry a few basic parts which the AA man can replace - fan belts being one such item.

It helps to know the dimensions and profile of the fan belt.
If your local car parts shop doesn't stock it, the chances are that an engineering factors or agricultural merchant may have one.
I buy my fan belts from a local drive belt place that has belts for all sizes and manner of machinery.
Last time I was in there a farmer was buying drive belts for one of his harvesting machines.

Andy you know what they say about how mechanics maintain their own vehicles

He should be on his way home now, hopefully not on the back of Marcus's truck

talking of stockings, top tip of the day for when you lose the round thing that holds them into the suspender belt - always carry some aspirin as the tablet works as a subsititute !!

Interesting how you know that Alex.  Will you be wearing your stockings at Ripon?

They will go well with Mick Outhwaite's bikini bottoms

Hi,

I assume everybody knows that the four figure number "painted" on a fan belt, is it's measurement in millimeters. On one occasion, I guestimated what size belt I needed, then made several visits to Halfords, starting with a guestimate, and returning to exchange for the next size up, on their rack.

If anybody here has an S2 with alternator, it may help somebody else to tell us the number on your belt.
