door hinges
« on: May 25, 2022, 11:59:23 AM »

Hi,
I´m looking for new door hinges for a Series 2A 88¨ -67.
Found used once on ebay but no new, the only new I see is a stainless variant for a safari door (3 hinges).
Anybody know a source for new or fully refurbished once?
Thanks!  :o

Not too keen to change over to Defender hinges even if I understand that they fit.

You could rebuild your old hinges, you can buy the pins and balls etc to do this, not a hard job ???

Might be a good alternative, I have seen some repair kit.
Thanks!

At some point in the future I'll be needing a full set, "Hesperus" had been fitted with "Defender" style hinges so I've no old ones to repair/restore.

How far away from "worthwhile" is it for someone to reproduce copies ?  Does anyone already do it ?

Surely rear door hinges are only any use on one side, drivers side top possibly, and the longer ones are no use on a side door.
Side door top and bottom hinges are also different?
I’m not aware of anyone reproducing Series 11 hinges, but as already mentioned most can be refurbished with new pin and ball unless the cups are excessively worn.

 :bright-idea
If anyone was to reproduce the S11 hinges perhaps the front base plate on the top hinge could be extented in the casting to make a mounting position for S111 type mirrors?  :pot-of

or is this a idea to far for a Monday morning.........

This is land rovers way of fixing door mirrors to S2s, straight from the optional equipment section in the parts book.  Perhaps S3 mirrors could be fitted to the bracket.

Brackets 347704 and 347705 are readily available but I made my own before I realised that they existed

^^^ I've looked at these and the S111 mirrors wont fit on these as the hole spacing is wrong, shame :thud
although I did see this way of doing it in Llandudno a few weeks ago, perhaps a member?

Copy the brackets but adjust the hole spacing to your mirrors

I've seen that done before, but I think the problem is the passenger side mirror ends up too far forward so the view is blocked by the windscreen   ???

Can't beat the "Military Hinge" mod, in my opinion, but I might be biased   :neener

I like Robin's "military" hinge mod but I already had the arms and mirror heads so had to find another solution - the land rover style bracket works for me.
