200 Tdi ''modern'' engine transplants
« on: August 05, 2022, 09:58:14 AM »

I had a random thought this morning which isn't unusual but this is one I can actually mention to people.
When asked about my weird old Land Rover I say it's 54 years old but got a much more modern tdi engine fitted.
Well, it occured to me today that the "modern" 200 tdi in it is from 1992 and therefore is now 30 years old. Only 24 years younger than the Series 2!

I'm not going anywhere with this, just wanted to share that somehow 1992 is now 30 years ago.  :stars

Yep, the Landrover I think of as my "new" one, a 300Tdi, was built in 1996....

Would you all please stop reminding us all about how old and decrepit we all are. As for our vehicles... Likewise!

Seriously though, its a valid point. My first Series One rebuild was done in 1986 when the LR was 34 years old. It felt like a really old vehicle. Until recently, I had a 1984 One Ten which I always assume is quite a recent vehicle - I now realise that that's now 38 years old and still going...

I could (just) have legally driven my '70 2A SW when it was brand new. At the time I had a rotten 8 year old minivan!

OT but rumour has it that a soldier driving a "Bulldog" upgraded FV432 in Iraq was presented with a pic of his grandfather driving the same vehicle on a parade in Berlin in the early 1970s.

I can well believe it. This upgraded "Bulldog" vehicle shows up as having a "Date in Service" of October 1968... If you want to know why, look into the "Ajax" project and cry.
