Land Rover owners who deplore Jeeps
« on: August 12, 2019, 09:16:15 PM »

I wonder how many of Land Rover owners who deplore Jeeps have actually driven one?

I've never driven one. But then, I don't deplore them ::)

I have both! Both have their good points and bad.
A good is *&%^$ fun and lovely to drive with many attributes over the Land Rover.

Repeat swapping Land Rover for *&%^$, but add heater , doors, tilt, wipers and a decent load area and tailgate.

Overall I feel the Land Rover wins on useability and the *&%^$ on fun.

If you ever get the chance to drive try a decent one. If you try a rough one you will wonder why people like them.

I don't understand the price difference. Lightweights are much rarer but jeeps double the price.
Both have erratic spares quality issues, in fact the *&%^$ is a lot worse with many rubbish parts being sold. Big weakness their t84 gearbox.

Had a drive in a 1952 M38 *&%^$ a good few years ago. A real hoot to drive. Can we add folk who call a Series Landrover a 'truck' to the deplore list :neener

Is it a Car or a Truck? To me, it is a Land Rover.

I'd happily have a jeeep if someone wanted to donate it to me, or if I won it, like they used to do at Beltring!.. I wouldn't / couldn't buy one, and if I had that sort of dosh I'd probably get a Citroen Traction Avant or Model T Ford or something..  :-X

Ah. Terminology.

A “lorry” (or “float”) is a flat bed load carrier.

A “truck” has shallow sides to help restrain a load. Sometimes they are droppable, sometimes they can be detached to convert to a lorry/float.

A “wagon” has a canopy over a frame, which offers weather protection without having to remove it to access the load.

A “van” has a fixed roof and sides.

So, our Land-Rovers can legitimately be trucks, wagons or vans, depending on how they’re configured, and lorries/floats if they’ve got flatbed rear bodywork.  :)

Land rover refered to the chassis number as a car number so presumably they thought they were cars.

Wasn't the 'car' thing on the id plate of series 1s ?...I thought by S2 /2a they'd decided to call it chassis number...
So terminologically my land rover is a 'van' then...

I had a flathead Willys CJ-2A that really wasn't much different than my Series 2A.  Slower, smaller, weaker and lighter, and an absolute joy offroad.

Hi,

Yesterday I posted a reference to "JEEP DRIVERS BOTTOM", (Google) an affliction that led to several thousand WW2 GIs being medically discharged from the US Army. Strangely, it only affected those of a "paler" disposition. (Divine punishment?)

I am not aware LR drivers suffering a similar ( PITA) affliction, but that is not to say that it couldn't happen. Be afraid!

I used to work with a chap who had worked in East Africa for may years and he said that a common affliction out there was "land rover back" caused by travelling hundreds of miles at speed on dirt roads.

I love J E E P S  :)

After all, they were the vehicle that sparked the inspiration that gave rise to our Land Rovers.
