Looks good ???
Says - Compatible with standard compressors - I wonder what size is required to get a clean cut ???

Says 4-4.5 bar, that's 58-65psi in old English  :tiphat

Looking at reviews on an earlier offering, same model but 40A instead of the current 30A, it uses a standard PT-31 torch - consumables are very cheap on ebay.

Get there early, I suspect they'll only get a couple in each store   :whistle

Well, I was at my local Lidl before they opened the doors this morning!

They had about 15 chargers and 4 plasma cutters in stock, so grabbed a couple of chargers and a cutter   :cheers

Cheers,

Re. the plasma cutter - I can confirm that the torch looks like it is a PT-31 equivalent.

Consumables are very cheap - see HERE  - 210 pieces for £11.49!

Of course, you can get smaller quantities for less.

Looking at the measurements of the consumables, the ones I linked to above are shorter nozzles and electrodes than the ones which came with the torch, but that just means the nozzle doesn't protrude quite so far from the end of the ceramic shield though if you were bothered, you can get longer nozzles and electrodes.

Cheers,
Robin.

Looking at the   Ultimate Speed Oil Pump £ 12.99 and others I've seen elsewhere how can you be sure all the old oil is out compared with using the drain plug ???
or should I not care :shakeinghead

You should not care.

With a sensitive hand you should be able to "feel" when the suck-up pipe hits the bottom of the sump (or gets very close).
Then pump away.

If you get 95% of the old oil out then  :first

Regular branded oil (and filter) changes will ensure the best for for your engine.

I ask as I bought a good quality oil pump at a auto jumble but with no pipes and I have tried it with thin nylon hose which worked well but felt the pipe off a coil had a natural bend and may miss the low point in the sump, shoud such a pick up pipe be a thin straight nylon tube  that fitted in the dip stick hole, weak enough to bend in the dip stick tube but be straight enough to go straight to the sump ???

... have I answered my question :big_idea :stars

I started using oil extractors years ago with my Caterham 7 - not (always) as a lazy way of changing the oil, but mainly as a way of minimising the amount of mess I could make when I did open the drain plug or remove the filter.... :first

Also especially useful on moderns - as there’s rarely (in my limited experience) enough clearance to get a drain pan in place that will collect the oil before it splashes all over various chassis and sub-frame components!

Regarding the Plasma Cutter - I was in Lidl's yesterday stocking up on their chocolate brownies (absolute quality BTW, and I know my brownies, and a bargain at 59p each), I spotted the cutter and couldn't resist at that price.

Out of the box it looks to be of decent quality - although obviously it's what's in the box that counts. I've just given it a quick trial on a piece of rusty 6mm angle iron and it cut through that without any problems. As I only occasionally need to cut metal, it looks to be a worthwhile additional toy, sorry tool, to the workshop.

Regards

4 to 5 bar IIRC which is around 70 ish psi - well within the capacity of a hobby compressor.
(bar x 14.7 = psi)

Assuming you are not going at it like a mad man a hobby compressor should be able to keep up.

...do they fail-safe if you exhaust your compressor or do you end up with a puddle of slag, a melted tip or some such?
