2Bs were forward controls.

IIRC there were one or two 2B prototypes in a SWB format or were "specials" made by owners ???

So the advert description is wrong, and it wouldn't be first time.

Back in the day quite a few people wrongly called the 'headlights in wings' model IIb.  It was perceived by many outside landrover as a different model when it first appeared.

Confusion reigned, and it wasn't helped by Landrover themselves when they broke with tradition and followed the 2A FC with the 2B FC

Hi,

Similarly ... there never was a D-type Jaguar ... it was just another C-type (or so I read).

Legend has that the Jaguars at Le Mans, had those new fangled disc brakes .... that glowed in the dark.

I suppose the first of any series is never actually "1", "A" etc until the second model is launched. Then they retrospectively re-label the previous one to indicte that it was out of date and has been replaced with a better version.
Each model is always advertised as the ultimate, state of the art. No manufacturer is going to persuade people to buy something if in effect they are already predicting a long list of better products coming shortly.

Back in the 1980s we were not allowed to refer to 'Version 1' of any IBM software, as their lawyers deemed that calling it 'Version 1' implied that there would be a 'Version 2' along in due course.

This played havoc with file naming conventions.

The series 1 was never called such by the factory, but the series II and onwards were. The IIA was the IIA right from the start, to differentiate it from the series II.

Well with that 12 bore the shot would have most likely bounced and hit her in the face

The series 1 was never called such by the factory, but the series II and onwards were.

To be strictly accurate, the Series One was never referred to as such by the factory during its production run.

It was however, officially rebranded as Series One by the factory at the time of the launch of the SII.

They sent out memos to the Dealerships, telling them of the new name for the earlier model.

(Ninetys and One Tens were not renamed as 90's, 110's or Defenders though >:().

I get confused with the names of any land rovers after Series 3 and the military numbers, Rover 8 etc are a nightmare
