200 tdi
« on: March 21, 2020, 04:42:01 PM »

Hi All
Could anyone tell me whether an aeroparts capstan winch will work off a 200tdi engine, if not what would be involved to get them work together?

You would need to replace the crank shaft nut with one that has the dog drive slot for the winch drive shaft.

And IIRC the crank shaft nut on these engines is 19 mm ... and IIRC there was someone on here selling such nuts ???

Well that has put my mind at rest, sounds like it should be an easy fix if I can get hold of the correct size dog drive.
Many thanks Wittsend 👍

Crank nut on a 200TDI is a metric thread, off the top of my head M20 x 1.5, though I can check tomorrow if required. Head is 30mm AF.

Yes and No Gene. I was never happy with it, so I am very slowly acquiring all the bits to redo it much better. Verrrrryyyy slowly! Although if we end up in lockdown it may get done much sooner!

Yes it will but needs a bit of work. If you're still using the original Aeroparts linkage you'll need to make up brackets to fit the 200tdi and likely the dog clutch to go under the crank bolt too. I had to machine the head of the crank bolt down on mine to clear the other half of the dog clutch.

Thanks guys for the input
I currently have the original 2286 diesel fitted which I am seriously considering replacing with a 200 tdi but need the capstan to still function. So Calum if this does happen I may be in touch to pick your brains further if that is ok!

Yes no problem. I had no linkage at all for mine so borrowed one off a friend and made it all from scratch. The brackets I made up myself to suit a standard mounting plate (where the alloy selector block mounts) so would probably be the same. I had considered getting the brackets laser cut and selling them but I ought to finally use the winch in anger a bit first to prove the design.
