This may be a stupid idea, but, talking to a friend about the problem he said-
Once you have input the code and the engine starts and stops, with the key fob well away from the car so you dont press the fob to activate anything, remove the battery from the fob. Then in future only use the key to lock/unlock/start the car. He then claimed the Discovery will not immobile its self ever again :stars
To me this sounds far to simple but could it be right ???

When it comes to fobs which set and unset the alarm system where do you keep the spare batteries to replace the ones that have failed and locked you out? Camping in France with a friends one had a Disco the batteries in the fob went flat and he  couldn't start the car and didn't speak a word of french.

If the advice is that I will not be able to keep inputing the code, due the quality of the door lock, I noted these 2 options-

&
auction: #113615849824

any thoughts/advice on these ???

That's the chap...
It's a 16 pin socket, but doesn't use all the pins depending on what protocols individual vehicles are running.

I've just read this topic so may be a bit late!
My Disco 2 had unlocking problems where the key fob refused to unlock or lock the doors. I traced this to a faulty key receiver hidden in the roof lining. I found this out because the key would work if it was held very close to the car, about 18" from where the receiver was sited. I fitted a nw receiver and all was OK again.
