Useless delivery company. Rant
« on: July 20, 2020, 05:42:58 PM »

I’m waiting for my gearbox to arrive from Cornwall via TNT. I had an email from the courier to say they collected it on Friday and it was scheduled for delivery today , the 20th before 18:00 hrs. At 16:00 hrs I got an update to say they ran out of time and it would be delivered at ‘ First opportunity ‘ whatever that means.
As you might have  guessed I’m not very impressed. On their website it says that TNT will soon become FedEx , another less than perfect shower based on my recent deliveries from them. I could have taken the wife out today if I hadn’t been waiting for them.

On the other hand I had a delivery from UPS recently, good communication and a timed delivery slot which they stuck to.

Rant over.

To be fair the Hermes service is far worse, recently taking over 2 weeks to deliver with the 3 day service :thud
(more than once!)

Hermes is great locally, Yodel though are awful, still waiting after 4 months for them to tell me where they left my parcel safe. Don't recognise the place in their picture.

Yodel here are totally dreadful, the driver regularly misses out this entire area. The Hermes driver is scared of our track and until recently refused to come up here, dropping stuff off 200m away. DPD were supposed to deliver today... its 20:10 so I suspect that is another no-show.  DHL also only drop stuff off in the village for us to collect. None of them come out here more than once a week.

Royal Mail come every day, deliver to the door and provide a valuable community service by actually talking to people.

The decision to take the parcel delivery monopoly away from Royal Mail and divvy it up to private companies, with "self-employed" couriers on low wages and poor conditions was one of the worst "privatisations" of many.

I deal with all of these couriers on a daily basis delivering to me. That's why I send goods in the UK via APC and abroad by Parcel Force. Yes, I know they are not the cheapest, and occasionally things go wrong, but it is only occasionally. You pays your money and you takes your  chances.
The attached picture sums up my thoughts on Hermes.

Well, here's my contribution.
I have a triumph cub. I bought some parts from a place called "greystone" in the UK.
Started out with RM (all good) but went pear-shaped when it arrived in the US.
According to the tracking info:
NYC,
Los Angeles CA,
Providence Rhode Island,
San Diego CA
arrived today in Pittsburgh.

according to google, it's travelled 14,552 miles

^^^^ Never mind, when I was working alongside the US Army in Bosnia my Christmas mail arrived with the British "National Support Element" in Sarajevo. They handed it to their US colleagues to get it to me in Tuzla, a couple of hours drive away. The US military posties sent my stuff to.... Japan.

 :thud

It caught up with me in late March.

I ordered a bunch of parts last summer from the UK and they shipped TNT.  3 days later it was here in Kansas.  Shocked me to death!!!   :agh
