Not sure why we now have a new forum as I can honestly say I never had any problems with the old one.

The forum we were using was based on somewhat out of date software.
A recent update was applied to the forum which caused some significant issues to the old forum rendering it unusable for a little while.

The opportunity has been taken to recreate the forum using up to date software. There will never be a 'good time' to do this, but it was decided that we may as well bite the bullet now.

Im sure someone else with more knowledge on the subject will be along soon to explain - my understanding is very basic!!

Whilst I'm pleased that some (old) forum users still have access - quite a few, the majority don't.
On 4 of my computers/devices I can't access the old forum 

On this PC, I can only access the old forum through the Opera browser.
Yet Opera on the other PCs won't let me see the old forum.

It's all very weird 

A new start is best all round.

I've been developing and testing (on and off) for 6 years. The current generation of SMF has evolved, as has my setups and theme(s).

There is in fact a new Release Candidate SMF, but I need (lots) time to get that to even closely resemmble this version of the forum.
At some point - years down the line we will have to move again - but there will be tools to enable the DB to be transfered and upgraded - which is what happen last week, and failed

Ahh, that answers a few questions then Alan.

Since the initial outage, I have been unable to view any posts on the old forum using a laptop with thunderbird, phone with internet app, and iPad on safari. I just tried logging out to see if that cleared it, but alas, it did not and I am locked out on my phone and iPad but the laptop has let me back in!!

That's not what you said last time I went off-topic. 

No, I lie. You have always treated me with utmost courtesy.

The thought crossed my mind that Alpha-males will be attracted to superior forums, and then convince themselves that they are in charge (it's easily done). You should regard off-topic mail as a compliment.

We have noticed that other clubs are used as a trading base for some members. And then there are the members who establish themselves as "Top Dog" via their cheque book and selective purchase of the best example of their marque available. I'm glad to say that I have not noticed either trend in this club. OK, some of us buy a superior motor, but we remain humble. Power to your elbow.
