Forum Signatures
« on: August 04, 2019, 06:40:15 PM »

There's been some discussion on this feature.

Admin can turn them on/off and set a whole load of options.
We can restrict the number of lines a sig takes - I have now reset this to "unlimited".
We can restrict the number and size of images in the sig.
Images are currently restricted to 300 x 120 pixles.

OR

The user can turn off viewing all signatures (and a load of other stuff) through their forum profile.

AND
I have added a mod, that was also present on the old forum, that only places your signature in the first post you reply to in any topic. Further posts result in no sig being displayed.

Some people don't like looking at long and large signatures, nor do we like smart *&%^$ signatures taking the *&%^$ ...
It's a case of setting a fine balance between what's generally acceptable and not ....

I decided a long time ago that for me, the 'balance point' was to set my profile to see no signatures or avatars, so thank you for continuing to make that option available.

I'm not starting a tirade against them, just saying there is at least one person who thinks they are a total waste of screen space.

Regards.

For phone and tablet users they don't want to be scrolling down for weeks on end, past lots of signature imagsno matter how tasteful they be.

Hence - to show the signature once in a topicseems to be a good compromise.
One reason why I chop down huge images that some post, so they don't scroll off to the right all the time.
It's very annoying and time consuming  :shakeinghead

And ... yes, I do test how this forum looks on a phone, on a small screen.

Thank you Correus, for correctly guessing I'm no fan of emojis either; I accept the joke against me. I feel they are too prone to misinterpretation.

It always amused me that there was one titled 'kissy' which I'm sure most of the users didn't realise what it meant.
Either that or there was a lot of male to male kissing taking place, more than I expected in the world of Series 2 drivers and mechanics (but perhaps I am out of step with some aspects of todays world).

Hi,

How about a signature that can be "called up2 by clicking a button, so the the correspondees (living language?) can see them, momentarily if they want to.

I did consider suggesting some thing like the old Polyphotos, with a grid reference ... but decided "to get my coat".
