2.6 Six Cylinders
« on: October 12, 2020, 03:27:22 PM »

Hi guys,

My dad bought a 1968 109 station wagon with the 2.6 engine at the weekend. It's the first time in over 30 years since he last had a 2.6 so he's very excited.

I was just wondering if there are many people in the club who own 6 cylinder 2A's? Either station wagon or standard 109?

My Dad's station wagon needs a few bits doing, putting back to standard etc, so apologies in advance for all the questions I'll be having in the near future!

Unfortunately the gearbox completely failed whilst on the way home so the first job is changing that out. My Dad is keen on putting a Series 3 gearbox in there (we'll swap the bellhousing's over) purely for the syncro on all gears.

Hello Tom, Ive got a couple of 2A 6 cylinders.  Was there oil in the gearbox ? just curious why it decided to eat itself.

I have two 1-Ton six cylinders. I know of a couple more on here. They have a bit of a niche following.

Hi Calum, no it's a fairly early series III.  No IIA 1 -tons were built in 1972.

Hi Calum,

Looks like it sprung a major leak whilst it was being driven unfortunately  :'(

I have a 1971 LWB IIa 6 pot which came with a fully synchro box as standard. I’ll post a picture when I’m in the computer.

Another 6 cylinder owner here. Takes a while to financially recover from most trips but it's worth it - the sound and the smoothness more than make up for it.

You can understand why I want to put the 4 cylinder version back in my early 58 SWB
