What happens when you dont check everything?
« on: February 25, 2021, 11:16:26 AM »

Many years a go when I rebuilt my first land rover we did some ork work the engine, remember this was a 17 year old doing an economy job in the 1960s.

Engine rebuilt with new rings, and big ends and mains but the little end bearings felt OK so I dint take the gudgeon pins out.  It was obvious though ttha some bodging had been done previously.

250 miles after the rebuild whilst on the motorway suddenly a loud tapping.  the phot show what we found.  We knew that a piece of the piston skirt was missing before but we discovered that the little end on no con rod was oval and that thenew bush had just been fitted.  It was replaced with a "good" conrod but the same piston went back in and the engine did a further 40000 miles before being replaced
