It's nice it's got the Series II deep skirts.

Hi Chris,

I disagree ... but each to his own.

Many yonks ago (maybe still?),. is was believed that you could judge the state of the National Economy by looking at young ladies skirts ... the shorter the skirts, the richer we all were felt.

Does the same apply to Land Rover skirts?

PS. I didn't like Triumph Herald "skirts" either ... too much metal. Do we have a resident artist who could show us what an S2, and a Herald would look like with two inch deep sills?

Yep - Hemline Theory - remember it coming up in a Christmas lecture when I was doing my degree..

Back to the man in question - he was a good egg. He was the patron of a charity I did some stuff for. When it was officially launched he turned up in a grey transit and swore his way around the ship ( it was an ocean going coal barge called the MV Loach reworked to take disadvantaged kids on trips away) - one of his few aids said quietly "don't worry about the swearing - it just shows he feels at home".

Nice motor. Just wanted the rear mudflaps further forward...

I could have sold them the brackets to do that as well.....  :cheers

The Defender does have a nice stance and although I don't have one, I do like the look of truck-cabs.

As a personal preference though, the deep skirts and mud-flaps do look just a little odd.

Just started watching his funeral and the special Rover he designed.

I wonder where it will go afterwards.

In my personal opinion, they will have catered for every eventuality, and probably built three.
If so, hopefully one will go to Gaydon museum in the future.

This 2003 Land Rover will be a talking point for some time yet.
I wonder how many people watched the funeral just to see the Land Rover.
I didn't watch it and have seen only photos of the Land Rover.
Maybe the bus bodied one was to show what it used to be like.

Hi,

I didn't get to watch it either.  :'(  ... my Guru arrived at an inconvenient time, to set up my new PC. I am now driving a Microsoft V10.

PS. I heard it suggested that a good military mate would leave a note in his will, demanding a non-military funeral, to save his mates all the BS. But I know plenty of "Brown Jobs" volunteered to carry  Princess Di, and I assume the same applied to the Duke.

Hi,

Slightly OT ... many years ago, there was an argument on the main road in front of Bethesda Chapel, in Ynysmeudw (Pron IN-IS-ME-DO, translates as Hermits Island), in the Swansea Valley, between the driver of a fire-engine (on a "shout"), and the driver of a hearse.

The hearse driver refused to back up, saying that hearses took precedence over all other vehicles.

This was in the days before Google, but my limited research facilities suggested that the hearse driver was correct. I saw no mention of the definition of "Hearse".  Empty? De-commissioned and used as a "sin bin"?  Custom built, and never used in "anger"?  My mate's horse-drawn hearse?

I wonder how annoyed the marketing people at Land Rover are that it's a 'classic' defender and not one of the new ones.

I reckon the Duke of Edinburgh had the last laugh here. Carted off on the back of an old noisy Land Rover is just his sort of thing. You could hear that TD5 engine reverberating round Windsor Castle long after it drove away! Good on him!

I doubt if LR are too concerned. It's all brand publicity and they must have done well out the exposure.

Hello Alan.
What is that shade of green called? Bronze green seems to me not to be.
