Series 1 spin-on oil filter....
« on: April 19, 2021, 07:54:08 AM »

Sorry not a S11 question but a S1 question
Many years ago I bought a oil filter adaptor kit from the series one club shop for a siamese bore 2 litre petrol engine. This was there old style adaptor which has since been updated but as not cheap so I do not wish to replace mine.
My problem being that this kit only takes spin on filters that were originally fitted to some Polish built Fiats, a old Ferrari and some other rarer cars!
The club shop no longer has any stock and whilst some do crop up it seems these were made in 90mm and 95mm diameter with the same part number and with and without the internal oil reactor plate. In my case I need the plate type in 90mm diameter
These are usually made by TJ part number FB5418, whilst other make can be found 99% of these are the 95mm type (Some TJ FB5418 are 95mm Diameter)

Does anyone know of a company who may have old stock of TJ filters, I keep looking on ebay and have found a few in the past

Don’t get too obsessed with the casing diameter, all that really matters is thread type and sealing ring diameter.
Lots of cross reference and dimension charts online, as I discovered while searching for an hydraulic filter element for an elderly digger.

Yes well :thud
I have bought 4 of the same part number but 95mm diameter, They wont screw on flush as the side of the filter rubs against the engine block and oil pours out as soon as the engine starts >:D

Me thinks some modifications are required.

I presume it is to replace the bypass filter ona Siamese engine.

One of the choices since is is a bypass and only a small proportion of oil goes through it, dont change it, just change the oil more often or just block the pipes off.

An alternative is to move the fitting away from the block on somekind of spaceer and get 2 slightly longer pipes made (a hydraulics place should be able to help.  This would aloow you to screw the wider filters up tightly..

I always thought the bypass filter was a rubbish idea and I ran an 80" with the pipes blocked off for years.

‘Oilfiltercrossreference’ online lists 21 alternatives. Then check individual listings for dimensions.

^^^ yes your right in the points made, the S1 club now have a new design that takes a easy to get filter but this set up is over £100! I could try to space the existing filter out but access is hard and I would have to remove the wing etc and the filter is in a tight space between the engine and chassis. When I fitted the existing one I split the engine from the gear box but until a clutch chage is required I plan to avoid this and I hope that with luck I might die before I run out of filters and leave the problem for the next owner but I could only change the filters every second oil change and as I only do this once a year I might get away with it :bright-idea

Crikey, and I thought air filter elements for my winterised wolf were expensive at £239.94 each

I suppose it depends on the diameter of the sealing ring, but how about something like this?

^^^Thank You, I will mail and ask the diameter as if over 90mm it rubs against the engine block and fails to seel on the base plate
