Wolfrace Slot Mag alloys
« on: May 11, 2021, 11:26:24 AM »

I’ve just bought a set of Wolfrace Slot Mag alloy wheels for my 1969 2a 88” SW. Not rivet counter correct by any means but I like them anyway as a period aftermarket fitment. They are in need of a refurb which will be done in due course, but they haven’t come with any tyres. They are 7.00” x 15” wheels. What size tyres will I need that are similar to 235/70r16?!

Pic below for reference!

I have similar sized wheels on 300tdi discovery, but they are steel modular. It has 31x10.5 r15 which fill the wheel arch quite well. I should see how they look on the dormobile.

I'm sure there are other sites with similar functionality, but this is one I have stored.
Hopefully, by entering different tyre sizes you can see which 15 &16 inch sizes give a minimal difference.

Are you aware that Series  2 and 3 models destined for the USA were fitted with 15" wheels?
That was a more common wheel size in the USA, so there were a wider option of tyres available.
The original LR fit is listed as Road wheels 6L x 15 in., Goodyear ‘Ultra Grip’ tyres 7.10 in. x 15 in., which may give a starting point.

As Gibbo103 intimates, you may also have to work across the divide that is Imperial tyes sizes v Metric tyre sizes.

Not all tyres made to a given size have the same Turns per Mile, after selecting a tyre size you should look at the tyre manufacturers web site to establish the actual TPM.

Regards.

Google will answer your tyre size queries , 235, 70 r16s are about 28 ins od,
The wheels well they would look good painted but not all *&%^$ and briny,
If you feel you can't live with shame and vilification of the purists  I will swap you for tubless defender steel rims,

I happen to have an early Trooper wheel handy. 235/75 15. 28ish diameter.
Lots of older Japanese 4x4s used 15”.

This is a great size for tyre size comparison and many other tyre tools - offset calculators and the like: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

235/75r15 is the near identical to 235/70r16

I thought this was going to be a good link but tyre pressures etc seem to ignor Series or Defenders!

Thanks all, that tyre size comparison website is great! It looks like a 235/75r15 will be perfect for what I am looking for.

I like the look of the wheels, something a little different from the usual ‘one ton’ or Wolf wheels. I will most likely have them blasted and powder coated bright silver, they should be polished ally but the polishing will be too dear for me, and is too high maintenance!

Hmmm..... it's a US site and the inches vs metric doesn't understand things like 7.50 x 16. It seems they quote inch size tire as overall diameter x width x wheel diameter.

Off topic, Very popular Range Rover fitment in days gone by, especially those that had V8 Chevy conversions, (had a customer who had a few of those). They had 30x9.50R15 on them, some makes of 235/75R15 used to be dual marked 235/75R15-30x9.50R15.
