Idle curiosity
« on: May 31, 2021, 11:00:59 AM »

While putting together a set of Lucas glass light lenses I noticed they were not all the same.
The 2 clear glass lenses have several differences. One has raised lettering on it like a coke bottle which includes

7354
LUCAS ENGLAND
FV694906

The other one has no lettering.
On the one with the lettering the 4 glass wings are smaller.
The glass in the one with the lettering is very slightly more yellow.
Does anyone know if this is a series 1 2 2a 3 thing or a date thing or anything?
Any info for the idle appreciated. :-)

I found the same problem,It took me a while to find all with the same lettering.
I believe also that some were graded lenses.

I imagine that Lucas never actually made the glass lens (they would have been contracted in) and over the years they subtly changed the design ???

Further,

I believe "FV" refers to Fighting Vehicles indicating (sic) a military part ???
