Decent Springage
« on: June 09, 2021, 10:43:03 PM »

Hi all, newbie here. Glad to be part of the group and a quick question.

I have a heavy sag to the drivers side. The vehicle is fitted with parabolic springs and I want to replace them to rectify the sag.

I see a form who make springs in Birmingham called Jones springs, look pretty good with their multi leaf springs. Ar ethere others that supply a good and resilient product?

Looking forward to getting the old fella straight again!

Welcome!
Jones Springs are great. Can't fault them for quality, but they are at the higher end of available offerings. I take it you are keen to ditch the parabolics and go back to standard springs? If so, Jones are probably the best. Unless they have stock, their lead time is usually about 4 weeks, but worth the weight judging by the sets I've had recently.

I better get saving!

It could be that a previous owner has got the left and right springs swapped...

I am yet to dive into swapping them over to test this.

I didn't think that parabolics were handed.

If they are, is it just certain manufacturers?

Mine are handed, and are now well over 20 years old. They still sit nice and level with no issues. I think some of the cheaper ones weren't handed - the pairs of springs should have the same rate, but the right hand ones should have more free camber.

If the OP were to remove his springs (start with one pair) and lay one on top of the other, whichever has more curve in it should go on the driver's side. If they are the same, then replacement is the answer.

I purchased a set of new front springs off Jones back in March. Due to be delivered next week, so just be aware of the potential lead time.
