Land Rovers in music.....
« on: June 16, 2021, 03:25:53 PM »

Okay, pretty off topic this one but I'm sitting here in my home office, trying to do some work and have been distracted by the 32°c temperature up here in the roof and by YouTube....

I found a music video the other day, think it was posted on here (or maybe the series one club) that has a nice Land Rover in the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky3N5KhtVwc&list=RDMMfUYaosyR4bE&index=4

Listening on after that, a tune came on that I thought, who is this, not heard it before so clicked back on the YouTube tab to find a bunch of nice 110's playing about in a field.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCgv6ruGCB4&list=RDMM5DuVt1k8bdM&index=25

I then remembered when I was a fair bit younger and Britney Spears may have caught my eye, that she used a very nice V8 NAS ninety in the background of one of her videos.

Appears about 1.25 into the video if you cant stand to watch it all...

Anyway, back to work I guess.
Anyone else know of any unusual appearances by Land Rovers in music videos?

Craig.

OK, no Land Rover content (apart from a warehouse full of LR parts and an office full of LR parts technical planners etc) but this Bob Geldof video was filmed at my work!

Bryan Adams likes his Landies, he's sat on one on an album cover I have.

Interesting lifts. Do they still exist or was it a set made for the video?

This one was filmed at my place of work. Very obscure video and unlikely to be known to anyone outside the dance music scene in the late 1990's Strange thing is I've shared this video around the workplace and no one seems to remember it ever taking place!

No, they were removed not long after the video was made, 1990 or so.
I don't think that Health and Safety would be too impressed with those nowadays.

They were quite cool though, you never had to wait for a lift, just step on, and step off.
As a mere youngster, I could walk up the stairs more quickly. Not any more!

Yes, paternosters.
Don't suppose there are any left any more.

What I don't know is why Geldof & co came and filmed at ours. How did they know we'd got a paternoster? Hmmm

That's true, that will be this Bryan Adams one.

From memory I think it was built down in this neck of the woods and was based on a Range Rover chassis.

Here's Ben Gribbin's cover of 'Wild Rover'.  Wish it were longer, it's one of my favorites.

The Arts Tower at Sheffield University has a working Paternoster (a grade 2 listed building too from memory) It's brilliant! It was closed for quite a lot of the time I was there due to refurbishments but I also believe a contractor tried to use it to transport him and his ladders to a higher floor and it didn't go too well...

They did a feature on the One Show a few years ago where they raced the Paternoster against the building's 'conventional' lift. The Paternoster easily won.

From memory I think it was built down in this neck of the woods and was based on a Range Rover chassis.
I knew it was 100 inch, but that's about it. Sounds about right.

I think a lot of unis had them - students were expendable.
