Thanks rusty.
That’s really useful.
By some phones, do you mean some models or individual phones?
I know it did the full upgrade when I bought it.

Random phones regardless of model. Mine was a brand new 11. My son’s 7 was also affected. The phones got quite warm and literally went from full to empty in one quick go of a couple of hours.
If I remember right, it was as I had restored a backup on the newly purchased phone and then after an ios update it just started.
Now that I think of it, to solve the issue I unsubscribed or rather logged out of all Apple services and online backups, did full local backup, then fully reset the iPhone to factory standard and then restored the backup from my local computer and only then signed back in to iCloud and such.
Definitely something about logging out of things, but it’s been a while.
I was really frustrated as my brand new phone was pretty much useless and Apple only said “can’t be”. But I found a thread in the Apple community forum, too, where owners reported same problems. Only with iOS 14.6 has Apple acknowledged the battery bug and it’s supposed to be resolved with iOS 15.
Good luck!

Replacing the battery in your old 6s is surprisingly easy. Takes me around 20 minutes now and new batteries are only about £15

High Craig. Just ordered a kit of screwdrivers etc.
Mine has totally died . The tech man who is trustworthy did say it’s not the battery but the phone is draining it, POSs the Wi-fi chip gone bonkers.

I might try to get some charge into the battery by opening up, but wondering if a iPhone 5 battery would suffice or charge my 6 battery on an iPhone 5?
I know a charged battery does let the phone fire up and charge. Even just to wipe phone.

As a follow up . I bought a 6s iPhone. For £60 locally with a newish battery and all back to normal.
I decided to leave the Covid app inactive , all working fine re battery issues but decided to switch on the Covid app notifications yesterday. Battery died in the night, so I have concluded the app is using loads of power.
Problem is it seems a good idea to use it but not so good to have a phone that dies . Ok charging regularly 1-2 times a day is the answer but come on, we can do better than that!

Wow, that must be using your location all the time perhaps to drain the battery that fast?

I haven't installed it but regularly get asked when we visit places if we have the app and can scan the QR code before entering....

It’s really affecting the usability of the phone.   Mate carries a power block!

One solution is to switch contact tracing off at night.   You can do this for 4,8,12 chunks. Is when your in bed it’s not wasting power. Assuming your with someone who is meant to be there!
