OT - Silverstone Classic 2021
« on: July 28, 2021, 06:12:31 PM »

Evening all,

I'm toying with the idea of going to the Silverstone classic this weekend - any comments good or bad?

I go to the Castle Combe autumn classic when it's on and have enjoyed it, so am thinking this will be along similar lines but much bigger (and more expensive!).  I've always fancied going to Silverstone for some racing so this might be the best bet as it's classics.

Anyway, i'm still thinking about it...

I went a couple of years ago (not in a Land Rover) and enjoyed it. My favourite vehicle there was a series one I followed round the circuit which was probably the push I needed to buy my own series! Camping is good and just wandering around the campsites is interesting, the historic racing is also well worth watching. Not quite as good as classic Le Mans or Spa, but easier to get to, a nice atmosphere, and I’d definitely go again.
Of course nothing beats the New Forest and Solent six penny handley weekend, but that goes without saying.

I'm going on Friday. Got given a couple of tickets by our events department, so I'm taking my son.

Hi,

We've only been to Silverstone once, for practice day. Chucking down with rain, so very little activity.

It took us about two hours from when we hit the queue, to arriving in the car park.

We left late afternoon, and met somebody coming in ... they'd been "travelling" since after breakfast. Maybe things are better organised on race day?

Maybe there is a niche for  a Hells Angels taxi service? The road was wide enough two cars and a bike.

Thanks for the above,

To be honest I like the idea but not the cost or the crowds!
