It happens in Switzerland too.... definitely a rule I apply in both the Series or the Defender.

I don't mind a Defender parking close to me.

Whenever it's happened, and I've met the driver, there's been a bit of friendly chat/banter, and it's given them the chance to see what a REAL working vehicle is.   :-X  They're always complimentary about my beaten-up workhorse, so I try to be equally kind about the bling wheels and (relatively) sumptuous interior of their pride & joy.

There's not enough kindness about in these troubled times.

On a slightly different note.  Those of you on the "Old Forum" may recall me ranting about a parking charge last February incurred on a station forecourt.  Just as an update, we refused to pay, refused to name the driver, demanded they inform us of any proceedings they intended to pursue so that we could challenge them there, and essentially told them to "do one".

So far, we've heard no more.   :cheers

Good result ...

About time these parking cowboys were driven out of town.

About time councils woke up and smelt the coffee.
Parking charges - extortion of cash by way of "fines" that aren't fines are driving people away from the high street.
More and more shopping is done via the internet.

More free parking with fewer restrictions and perhaps more Land Rovers would park next to each other ???

Hi Wittsend,

It's not just car parks that the councils can't get right ....

... they have placed the "doggie-do" bins, in my local park, in the middle of the fattest blackberries I've ever seen.

Hi,

Probably OT, but maybe worth mentioning.

It is an offence (LA enforcable, but not by police) to park across a dropped kerb ... including your own dropped kerb. Google says so.

In London, I have seen parking notices that permit parking with nearside wheels on the pavement, but swapping which side of the roads on alternating days. Tough on those that don't read the small print.

I've also seen parking signs on the Gower, preventing street parking during the day, during the Summer. Many visitors do not read the exact wording. Ouch!

I got my only ever parking ticket opposite West Croydon station, circa 1960. I hadn't noticed the little TAXIS ONLY sign. Nor did my dyslexic eyes notice the traffic warden had mixed up the numbers on my registration ... but Barbara noticed. :first

Might be worth talking to OddJob, his colour scheme matches yours and he is know to take his vehicle all over the place.  :-X

One big reason why you are unable to find cheaper parking spaces in towns is that all these spaces are taken by people working in town and are unable to use park and rides even when we have them is because they open to late and close to early >:(

a lot of people need to wake up and smell the coffee as said above

I thought the whole point of Park-&-Ride was to get cars out of the city centres, mainly commuters, but shoppers too ???

Therefore, can anyone tell me why my local Park-&-Ride is closed on Saturdays ???
The busiest shopping day of the week ???
And why when it is open - no buses go into the city centre - it is sited alongside one of the main roads into the city ???
The buses only go to the hospital  :thud

You couldn't make this up.... further more in Norwich, "they" have wasted millions of £s on special cycle ways. Cycle paths that cyclists won't ever use  :stars
Should be a law that says cyclists must use the cycle path at all times. Motorist are free to run over cyclists in the road when there is a cycle path.
Harsh, but what's the point of cycle paths when no one uses them, or bus lanes with no buses  :thud

Abolition of on-street parking marked the decline of high street trading.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

i.e. loads of charity, card, and coffee shops. Real shops = gone.
You can get it all on line, from eBay  :first

^^^
In Wales “our” government don’t allow hospitals to charge for parking so our local general hospital has a massive car park but no spaces to park as it is used as a unofficial park and ride due to the regular bus service to the town centre.
So if you have a hospital appointment allow a extra 60 minutes to search for a parking space and walk to the hospital – not a great plan for those with walking/breathing difficulties :thud

Hospital parking - what a mess, what a rip off  :shakeinghead taxing the ill and stressed  :nursey

There has to be a simple (cheap) way to stop the free-loaders parking all day, but allow patients and visitors in for free.

At the moment there is no incentive for the hospital to keep to your appointment time as they get more money for keeping you in the car park.
A recent FoI request showed that Norwich Hospital charged the most  >:(

Hospital car park charging is disgusting.. no different to the ethics/ morality of a protection racketeer or drug dealer...
