stopped at the side of the road just after the staert of my journey back from a laning weekend in Wales to investigate a vibration that was getting worse.  Discovered a dead U/J so removed the prop for the rest of the journey.  Suddenly everything is smooth an YOD managed to get to 70mph on the motorway.  135 miles in just over 3 and a half hours (only 15 miles of which was on the motorway) including a lunch stop, not bad for a 63 year old, land rover that is, I am 71

Received a very large box on a pallet. The box alone is a work of art. In large letters on the front is stenciled "Robert Owen Engineering" Even the screws holding the box together are torx screws!

Next job is to open it. Hopefully I will find a fully prepared and painted late 2A bulkhead. If not, I've messed up somewhere...

The grand opening will be on Thursdays. Will report back.

Started dismantling the Series 2A and found many rusted bolts as anticipated but, several bolts of which the heads have been cunningly hidden by LR to make rebuilds just that little bit more fun.

Filled up with £30 veg oil so I can continue vaccinating children in schools across North Yorkshire as not one of our local fuel stations had diesel.
Thank goodness I’m running a 200tdi that will run ok on it.

Fitted my new lights . I got fed up with the cheap plastic ones that seem to pack up regularly so I thought I would try the mini ones advertised on eBay.  The lenses are plastic but the bulb holders are metal and therefore don’t come with an earth cable and the live wire is only about 5 inches long and doesn’t have a connector. The cable is long enough for the rear lights but not for the front. It is easy enough to solder a bullet connector on the rear ones and the fronts I just cut the wire from the old lamps and joined them to the new ones. They come with very small nuts and bolts which were no good for the back lights but can be used on the front but I just used the self tappers as I can imagine what it will be like to undo them from under the front wing once they have been there for a while. The side and rear lights came with led bulbs but I didn’t use them as I thought they looked a bit yellow. For about £16 a pair I think they are good value. Time will tell.

It does seem this issue is a bit patchy. Over the weekend our local garage ran out but had fuel on Monday afternoon and ever since, yesterday a BP site in Stirling was empty but three others I saw were fine, today every garage I passed, including the BP site was OK, no queues, no drama.

Thought about it, missed it, still trying to find a suitable work space to bring it in from the cold for restoration... :'(

Opened aforesaid mentioned big box from Rob Owen... Really pleased with the contents. It may have taken a few months (I think nearly 5 months), but looks like it was definitely worth the wait.

Now I've got to finish building the Land Rover...

^^^^ At current timber prices you could probably recoup most of the price you paid just by flogging the box

When I bought my Robert Owen bulkhead, they arranged for the crate to be collected.

I wonder how many times the crate has been used (and reused)?

Why don't you sign and date the crate on the inside so that if any of us get it in the future we can report back to you.

You never know a crate with your signature on it could be worth zillions in years to come!

Ok i'll get back in my box!

Good luck

Hi,

The Freelander passed it's test today.

Three bulbs and no advisories.

Apart from fitting a new clutch, and removing the noise from the transmission, many months ago, she has been extremely boring.

We've just realised that we have never received a new V5, and the VED expired in the not too recent past ... as had the MOT. I guess I'm going to have to use the "green slip" ... and pay some back duty ... if I can remember how to do that.

Doh!

Now there's an idea...! I reckon I was the first user of this box, but unfortunately I've sealed it up for return now. Can't face undoing all those TORX screws again!
