How about marking the edges ... top edge in eights of an inch, bottom edge in tenths, one end marked in metric, the other end in cubits? And one corner dedicated to digging stones out of horses hooves tyre treads

OT ... the RAF document authorising a journey was exactly 12" long ... so you could measure the skid marks.

My aberration certainly didn't leave the production line with limestone wheels, but some 60 year later that is how it arrived to me. I quite like limestone wheels on a DBG.
