That’s very interesting as the NFU advertise like mad on the telly.

Clearly you need to read the small print.

Unless they have changed their terms of business, NFU won't insure me as I live in that London. They were happy to take my money when I lived in deepest darkest East Sussex but once I moved they didn't want to know.

Perhaps if you kept a couple of chickens you could claim to be a farmer ???

Hi,

My mate at DVLA (now Reg Gen Shipping.retd) had difficulty getting insurance for a Minivan.

He solved the problem by declaring he was a CIVIL SERVANT & BEE KEEPER.

That mate recently had to call out the Coast Guard, when his little outboard motor failed in Swansea Bay. I wonder if he gets trade rates?
A ploy I've thought of, but too old to try .....

As soon as Junior turns 17, get him a licence, so he has the best possible answer to "How long have you held a licence?"

Even better, get him through a bike test ASAP.

Surely having a full bike licence will earn him a few Brownie points with the Underwriters?  I can't remember if the proposals ask if you have a full licence, and if so, for how long. ??? If yes, would it matter what Groups you are licenced to drive?

Have you tried a multi-car policy with other members of your family? This is how we got our 20 yt old on our S2 for approx £50 extra… good luck
The ownership of the car may be worth looking into also … sometimes needs to match the main insured person

My experience is a bit out of date now (I'm 32, how did that happen!?) but I too was 20 when I bought my first LR.

As someone already mentioned, one thing which made a big difference to me at that age was adding both of my parents as named drivers on my policy. Even adding my girlfriend made it cheaper! I queried this over the phone, and the explanation was simply that as a 20 year old male, increasing the likelihood that someone else might be driving actually reduced the risk to the insurers! As I was still the main driver it was totally above board, but saved me a fair chunk.

It was still I think £800 the first year though, at which point I already had 2 years no claims from my first car.
