Re: A sad tale...

Hi,

Can an S2 Club membership card be used to get a discount on ... say ... a set of tyres for Barbara's Hyundai? Tools from Halfords?

Sad? I don't think I can justify running two cars ... especially as Barbara can't get into either of them. I'm guessing that my best option is going to get me frowned at by Brian ... NEW car (cheapest suitable) with disability adaptions, and nil VAT).
... then start looking for a Series project, with a view to going electric.

My first move is to get us both assessed by an independent Occupational Therapist, paid for buy our medical insurers .....

Dream on!

To be honest I'm not sure an S2C memebrship card is much use for anything - I've never heard of anyone actually producing and showing their card to a retailer to claim a discount ???
You can't even use the new cards to scrap the ice off your windscreen.
Why do we have cards ??? Well, some members like to have a card for their wallet and with modern technology the peel-off cards are easy enough to produce, so why not ???

No doubt, someone, somewhere is going otherwise, years ago they went to such and such shop and had to show their card for a discount ???

These days more and more purchasing is done online - even for car tyres. The S2C have negoaciated discounts with various suppliers - see the page on the website - and you need to apply the discount code at the checkout page on the website.

Which tyre shop are you contemplating using ?

Being in the CSMA I think your best bet would be ATS - they used to/maybe still do, give CSMA members a discount.

Your S2C card won't work in Halfords.
Indeed getting a Halfords trade card is not as easy as it once was. They won't entertain car clubs anymore.
You need to be in the trade and provide supporting evidence.

YES
You really need to sell what vehicles you have and buy a suitale car that can be adapted for Barbara's wheel chair.

You know what Alan, this made me think that perhaps after these several years of playing here, maybe I should officially join the club.  I've got way more out of it than I've put into it, that's for sure.

So I did some peeking around and I can't find a place to sign up for a membership.  Can you point me in the right direction?

I bet there are others that have the same question.   :tiphat

Hi Alan,

Thank for your kind authority tp proceed.  :cheers

I'm scared to ask Barbara to tell me what the VED and insurance for the Freelander are costing us. ??? I wonder if it's enough to buy a project S2? Probably not!

Remind me to look up how many miles it did between MOTs, last year.

Hmmm!

That was easy ...

 8th September 2020 = 101,413 miles.

20th September 2021 = 103,695 miles.

                  54 weeks = 2,228 miles.

Hmmm! That doesn't seem right .... I reckon I've been putting about £50 of diesel in the tank every month ... say about £18.5 per week,. Please check my math ... I've been called for lunch, followed by taking Wilkie to my daughters forhis walkies.

Back later.

If those figures are correct - you have a leaky fuel tank.
