Insurance Wisdom.
« on: January 25, 2022, 06:17:12 PM »

My apologies if I am posting in the wrong place. I am wanting some recommendations on insurance, I was with Footman James previously but I have heard others say they are no longer competitive, I have also used Sureterm direct and Admiral on previous Landys.
Its a 1966 109 with a 200Di otherwise standard.
It will be Domestic/pleasure only and not a daily drive so probably 1000 miles per year maximum and I was 23 years old, 30 years ago!
Any advice will be gratefully received.

I’m with classic line and my renewal notice came up today. £115. How does that sound?

I note my valuation is £6k which for a largely original 1959, now seems low. I need to get an agreed valuation sorted.

It depends what you want from your insurance. I have a multi car classic insurance from Footman James which has unlimited mileage agreed value  and until I retired also gave class1 business use which allowed me to use my classics for work if I felt like it. It’s never been the cheapest, but gives me lots of options.

As a club member a good starting point would be to look at the ads in the club magazine...

You need to ring round the main classic Land Rover/car insurers. There are several to choose from.
In no particular order:-

Peter Best
Footman James
Adrian Flux

Good companies will know all about Series Land Rovers, SWB, LWB and all the model variations.
Don't deal with anyone who starts asking questions which suggest they don't know about Land Rovers.

Insurance is a personal thing, depending on you, your age, experience, driving record, where you live and your occupation.
Also depends on what cover you want. Most now offer free breakdown/accident recovery - some even for Europe. Then there's limited mileage, and agreed vehicle value.
What's a good company, a good deal for one may not be for someone else.

The real test comes when you have an accident, or a total loss - fire/theft etc.
How quickly they pay up, and a fair amount ???

I'm with RH (2 vehicles) but never had to claim.

Only thing to do is call around them all and see who offers you the best deal. Not necessarily the cheapest though, the best....
Everyone has different vehicles, circumstances, location, parking, points on license etc so it's very difficult for someone to say this company is the best as it may be for them, not for others.

Adrian Flux have been good for me in the past on both my kit car and the Land Rover.

I used to be with the NFU. When I realised the drop-down list the voice on the other end of the phone was using stopped at the Td5 I rather gave up....

I insured with NFU for 20 years ,they are no longer interested in old series , when contacted unless they could have my business for other vehicles as well they wouldn't quote .
