I could say that I have a dishwasher because I don’t have a dish washer but obviously that would be highly inappropriate and wrong so.... because it can wash car parts as well as my dishes and my Belfast sink won’t.

I got caught with my motorbike cylinder head in the oven once.......I needed to heat it to get valve guides out.

I find it easier to plead forgiveness rather than seek permission. I'm not allowed near the dishwasher, but I have been allowed limited access to the oven and freezer, so can't complain too much.

I need to use the oven and freezer in the next week. I have given myself permission.

As a youth, I was permitted to rebuild the engine gearbox of my motorbike on the kitchen table by my mother,
under the strict requirements that the table had to be clean and ready to eat at by 4pm at the latest.
Layers of newspaper, plastic sheet and a sheet of aluminium and setting my alarm clock to go off at 3:30pm, protected the table and kept the timetable.
Two days later engine was put back in the frame, working under the sheet of plastic to keep the snow off.

In bedsit land, (Lansdowne Avenue, Bedford )
(think the house from Rising Damp, even to the timer light-switches on the stairs)
a different bike had its frame cleaned off with Gunk in the bath on the 2nd floor.
While I was carrying the now clean frame outside,
the Landlord (who was even greasier than the frame had been)
went into the bathroom and got upset about the state of the bath.
I met him on the stairs and mollified him by cleaning up the bath and bathroom,
(even removing the bracket fungus from under the sink).
The bathroom was damn sight cleaner after I'd finished than it was before I started cleaning the bike.
