I would interpret that as a “suffix D”, meaning it’s a very late Series 3 gearbox. If it’s been built properly with all the correct late bits then it’s the strongest variant of the LT76.

It looks very clean and has more ribs cast in the main casing than other III boxes I have seen. Maybe a late one as suggested?
I'm yet to be convinced by the disc hand brakes....

Craig.

There are suffix D S2 gearboxes - they go to F I think - certainly E - and there was the unicorn - like H which was all-synchro and rather different to the s3 one.

However all S2 boxes have smoothins castings with no external ribs.  S3 castings look a bit rougher and have feeble re-inforcing ribs or patterns cast in - along with the BL flying **hole pattern.

If its got really nice ribs it may be a Santana box - in which case you're probably lucky.
