OT: Camping gas cartridges.
« on: September 07, 2020, 07:15:33 PM »

I know a lot of you are campy types, - I have a question.
I've got an old tent heater that uses a C200 Camping Gaz cartridge.
As these C200 cartridges are now obsolete, I wondered if the new C206 cartridges would be compatable?

Cheers! :tiphat

Clearing out the shed a while back I found an original "bluey" cartridge at the back of a shelf, unpierced but empty..... it had rusted through !

C206 will work in place of a C200. How is the rubber grommet that seals the valve to the cartridge? They can perish with age, in which case you might get a leak when you pierce the valve into the new cartridge.

I remember looking into this some years ago having been caught out with a stock of the wrong kind, although they looked the same size.
I think I recall that one of the sizes differed in being very slightly shorter, which could be made up using a circle of plywood of the right thickness underneath the cylinder. I can't remember which one was the shorter.

Thanks for the interesting replies, I'm going down the screwfix route first and hopefully I won't blow myself up in the process.

Why would you want to heat a tent?

So that you can go to sleep with it on and wake up to a real fire - or not wake up to the carbon monoxide/dioxide mix if you tent was really well sealed.

A quick search online reveals that with a gas heater in a tent, you stand a good chance of you waking up dead.

Buy one of these. Click HERE
I leave mine on all night when it's really cold. Exhaust extension to the outside. This will save you from waking up dead..

The dog gets in mine with me when it's cold. Just like see does at home in the bed.
