Hello all. I recently started breaking up a series 3 bitsa. I have never seen a transfer box with all the strengthening ribs on it before. The vehicle was ex military and had a 2.5 petrol engine. It has a combat chassis. The main gearbox has the filler on top. I cannot find any serial numbers in the usual place. So my question is this - is this just a late series 3 transfer box? The other picture is an alloy tag secured to one of the bolts on the pto output blanking plate.

Didn't the last of the LT76 transfer boxes have uprated casings from Santana?

Something in the back of my mind says that's a Santana military transfer box. I'll do some research. I do know that Santana made a lot of LT76 boxes for LR during the Series 3 era.

Yup. Looks like a Santana transfer box on a Land Rover gearbox. The last Santana main boxes had similar ribs too.

Nice find - if you ever chose not to  use it, let me know - I’ve been interested int be for a while.

Yes, that’s a Santana transfer case.

I too would be interested if you are considering rehoming it.

Just been through my Santana parts catalogue. I see that the intermediate shaft and set up is different to the standard Rover / Leyland box. I assume it was an uprated version?

For whoever does take on the challenge, I'd be really interested in seeing inside that transfer box.

Hello. Wow. Thanks guys. I used to drive it on the road, and I must say it drove well , what with the 2.5 in front of it as well. I was going to put this into stock in case I ever get fed up double de-clutching ! However if its a super duper, uprated thing (in what way ? just stronger ?) that one of you could put to good use I will definitely consider letting it go. Let me ponder how much I want for it.

Quite funny, my mate has just rebuilt his gearbox which is a Santana main box but coupled to a Land Rover transfer. The main box is a split casing which is interesting!
