Help with old Stuart turner pump no 12
« on: August 19, 2019, 07:59:12 PM »

I picked up an old mains Stuart turner no12 pump today, poss for a lathe coolant pump or pond pump.

Tested it but noticed it has only 2 wires so am I correct it MUST have an Earth to be reasonably safe? I did a plug in at a distance test and it runs and spurts water out.

Very little on the net?

If it doesn't need an earth, it will be double insulated. If so it should have a symbol of a square within a square to denote this. I would have thought that an older pump would require an earth. Even modern pumps for central heating need to be earthed. Can you post a pic?

Rejuvenation just about complete.
New wiring including earth , still alive.
Pump stripped and removed sediment , stones and crud
Newbolt and washers found,
Tested and lovely little unit.

Just need to decide what to do about theold grease on motor shaft and how to re pack?
The end is easy as a plate comes off, pump end not so easy however there are grub screw feed points which may get grease nipples.

Moving on, I picked up a Stuart no 10 pump. Same design .
Does anyone know how to remove the brass pump shaft that sits on the steel motor shaft?
I don’t want to ruin it.

Given where you are I'd try amos pumps

or a counter in Bomin assuming they are still going with all this Covid stuff that has been going on.

They recently sold Stuart no 10 spares , and have been around forever, so I imagine if you can speak to someone in servicing they might be the sort of place to help (never used them myself but have a friend who used them on several occasions and speaks highly of them)
