Is injector cleaner a good idea ?
« on: June 24, 2020, 08:17:18 AM »

I was thinking of getting some injector cleaner fluid to see if it makes any difference to the smoke and soot from my exhaust. My engine sits for weeks on end without use and then gets a 10-15 mile run occasionally hence it never really gets a good ‘blast out ‘ .

What do you guys think , any trusted products out there ?

yes - may work and put off an injector overhaul or replacement a bit longer - or may not in which case you've wasted some cash.  Only one way to find out!

It’s a sad fact that the more sensibly you drive a vehicle, the more problems build up.
Sooted up diesels, glazed and seized brakes, etc. Good excuse to drive like a hooligan.

I always find my diesel vehicles run better after they have had a bit of work to do , like towing a loaded trailer.  My Local LR dealer commented that the used demonstrators  always seem to run better than the ones sold new to the public. The demonstrators are worked hard and thrashed by potential customers from new.

It doesn't hurt to add a good diesel fuel additive from time-2-time.
I use Millers Sport Diesel and I also use

It's also worth putting in the occasional tank of the more expensive special branded diesel fuel - BP or Shell.
You should notice the difference after a run on this stuff.

... and give it the occasional blast round your local bypass to blast the soot out - give the engine a good thrashing.

I agree with Alan on the archoil stuff, we have a skoda that had very occasional sticky turbo vanes which leads to car going in to limp mode, got a bottle of the archoil stuff to cure it more in hope than expectation but I was pleasantly surprised I now give the car a bottle a year and the symptoms haven't returned.

I also use Millers.  I find that that a few 'hard' runs keeping up with the rush hour traffic (as it used to be), then a few days rest, then the engine runs really well for a few more days...  Then, repeat the cycle!  I've not yet dared a run up the motorway to give it a good clear out.

Well going to give it a go for my diesel, just bought some millers from Opie Oils. Weirdly it is cheaper to buy via eBay than from Opie direct when factoring in delivery.... ???
