Things (generally) need to earn a name in our household.

The S2A is called “Roary” (spelling intentional) as a deafening pun. My two kit cars (a Caterham and a Westfield) have never earned names in the 15+ years I’ve had them - but our BMW X3 somehow did (Stuart - being Scottish) based loosely on its registration.

funny thing naming vehicles, they seem to have to earn a name or at least mine do. The earliest I have is an 86" that for 20 years was known as the V8 as that is the engine it had it has now been re-christened Joe after a veteran and all round good egg I used to drive on parades. The 125" series one was christened the Beast by my wife as it is a bit of a *&%^$ to drive, Lady Jane my 109 SW was named after my grand mother who liked a blue rinse and had been described as a galleon in full sail. The 88" 2a never earned a name , don't know why but it never got one

As said in a previous post all but one of ours are known by their registration but the 59 diesel used to belong to my brother in law who classed all machines as female, when he bought it in 1963 he called it Aggy or when it was being recalictrent (it used to be a 2L diesel and winter starting was an art) he would stand in front of it threatening it with the starting handle and igive it its Sunday name Agnes.  sadly he is dead now but the land rover is still in the family and is known as dads land rover or YNM the registration.  The 58 is known as YOD, the registration or Fred's land rover after the PO who was always known as Fred even though he was called David.  He was a close friend, he bought YOD in 1966 and it came into our family in 2013 when he died.

I've really enjoyed this thread and everyone's little tales about the origins of the names.
