Original Galvanised Window Channel - Long Life!
« on: September 03, 2019, 01:11:52 PM »

Originally Land Rover fitted to Series 1 & 2 Galvanised Window Channel - See the attached photo's

It was fitted originally on my 58 SII, so has a very Long Life compare to the available Flocked Channel which Rusts Quickly!

Would anyone be interested in the Original Galvanised Window Channel, with the Black Felt inside ?

Thanks

Wow, that lasted well.  :o
Window channels would be such an easy thing to make from stainless rather than mild steel. I'm sure people would pay a few pound extra if it was available...

I’d be interested in enough to do a SWB truck cab

I’ve had the SIII club channel in the past and wasn't overly keen (loose, rattly glass and a scraping sound when opening). But it was very, very cheap to be fair.

Very much so.

I like doing things once and doing them right - the Land Rover was originally designed on the same philosophy.

Over the years, quality and durability were sacrificed for build cost to drive up margins but as an intended long-term owner I am inclined to reverse the trend wherever possible.

I have asked Bob Jones and he has decided not to make the Galvanised Channel.   I don't know why.    Bob is only doing Stainless Steel Channel and only in Series 1 Window sides.   Therefore have the correct length to do  2 x Series 2 Windows you need to buy  2 x Series 1 Window set and a set for the Rear Pick Up Cab.

Are there plans for the galvanised channel?  This looks exactly what is needed for the rear window in my fathers 1958 Austin J type van. The front windows appear to be plain brass.

Tooling cost are required to make the Original Galvanised channel so some idea of volume ideally needs to be understood.

I suggest asking volume requirements on this thread would be a way to gauge interest. Assuming price is reasonable, I would go for enough to do two sets of windows and a truck cab.

There is already a good selection of tracks and seals available - for example:
