Over-priced 2nd hand parts a selling strategy.
« on: May 24, 2021, 11:42:41 AM »

Selling up ~ the earache has got too bad and my knees have gone :-)

Was amazed at the prices when I started looking at the forum and ebay again.

Keen to avoid selling to someone who just re-lists it on ebay.

Will this strategy avoid that annoyance?

Firstly look at ebay sold listings and get a price in mind (remembering to take off ebay's mile high fees)

Contact friends.
Put it on here for a week without a price.
Put it on ebay as an auction with no reserve for a week
Weigh it in
Take it to tip

Earache has already improved now I’ve started :-)

Well, the policy here is typically that you should put it up with a price  you're willing to accept 😉

Put them up with an 'E-bay' price but say you will consider offers! Then you can choose to accept or decline the offer depending on who is asking. So, stealth trader = top whack, someone you know, or someone you know wants it for their own vehicle = sensible offer.

I am having my collection of 'used' spoked steering wheels restored for sale to pay for the one I keep myself. I would like to sell them to people who want to use them, for a reasonable price, but not to someone who would then resell it for £200+ profit on E-bay. The sad conclusion is that they will have to go on E-bay for a high price.

The other side of the coin is that some people on here still want stuff at 1970s prices, despite what they go for on E-bay!

Wasn't it better when the vehicles were plentiful and weren't worth much?

Whilst at Malvern showground if you were there  did you realise there is an auction sale on Tuesday?
Held in the Severn Hall organized by John
Goodwin it is mainly of a tradition Barn Collection.
Among the lots there are quite few Land Rover spares and 2 Series  3 and a series 1.
It seems to have had very little publicity so   could be cheap.     Catalogue is  at https://www.easyliveauction.com/auctioneers/johngoodwin/

Put theses up on here last week
"Selling up ~ Lucas RER4 Red rear reflectors" for £20 + pp
Only similar on ebay £45 (inc post)
Just put them on ebay with no reserve, it will be interesting to see the outcome this time next week :-)
