The trouble with a lot of early Land Rover Series parts is good second hand parts are hard to find!

Therefore we end up buying one part, Then find the same part in better condition so buy that, then a NOS New Old Stock Parts turns up so we buy that!

Then suddenly we have 3 part when we only really need 1!

Answer buy another 2 Series Land Rovers!    or sell 2 parts!   Highly unlikely, as we may need them someday!

I am sure we have all done it!

I've just done this deliberately. I needed a fuel gauge sender for a Series 3 and ended up with a Britpart thingy that had to be clipped together with C clips. I ordered another from a different source quoting 555844 and got the same thing. Third time lucky I've ordered one from Blanchard's who had a choice and they've assured me that the one now on its way is the original type. The one currently fitted isn't working and from the banging in the tank it's likely to have fallen apart.

I do it by accident and on purpose, sometimes the wrong part, even  :thud

Mostly a duplicate order is because the first was supplied incorrectly and it's not worth returning it to the UK.

Sometimes I try repairing a part but I'm not sure if it will work, so I order one in case, but the repair holds, so I have a new one hanging around.

But if you go to a Series meet every couple of years, you can sell a lot of duplicates to someone else who can use it. OR who maybe has their own duplicates ...

With advancing years, I find I go looking for a small part that I bought, cant find it, and then wonder if I did actually order it.
After buying another, I invariably then find the original one :shakeinghead

Latest project has now gone for final painting, so I can now get to all the "extras" and list them.

Just realised I've got 6 BPF headlamp bulbs. I've only used 2 over the 20 odd years of ownership.....   :stars

I think I might be a hoarder, I've got so much random stuff that its hard to actually work on the good stuff.....
my excuses are
"well they don't make them anymore"
"where will I find another one"
"I'll need it one day"

usually turns out to be true, but still..

I once ordered a second Discovery 2 bodyshell because I couldn't find the first one I ordered at our workshop in Sarajevo. Turned out that the first one had got buried in a snow drift. Luckily I fell over it in time to stop LR Parts shipping the second one all the way from Desford.

Is buying something you want twice, worse than buying something you wish you hadn't, once? I can just remember my Elton John style Platform shoes which were not so groovy baby  :shakeinghead

I do the same with tools. I buy or make a special tool, put it somewhere safe, then forget I ever had it, and make / buy another one.

Hi,

Similar problem, but different reason.

In the last year, I have bought 5 wood saws. I can only guess that they joined the ranks of my builder's tool bag. OK, tool can get mixed together. I won't complain, he's worth it. During RAF tool checks, it was usual to find at least one bloke didn't have a 1/2" x  9/16" AF ring spanner. and another bloke might have five.

But FIVE pairs of secateurs, usually kept in a drawer in the conservatory, within the same period. ???  Builders? Care Workers? Cleaners? Magpies? Pack Rats?

The reason why my tool box was locked and I only lent out tools if I was to busy to do the job. Snap on tools are expensive. It got to the point in one work shop everyone locked there boxes as the painters treated everybody else's tools as their own.
