How many hood hoops for an 88" and also for a 109"
« on: August 14, 2019, 12:12:08 PM »

Hi all,

I have a set of hoodsticks and am trying to figure out whether they are complete and also which vehicle they are for. Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

That there looks to be one full set for an 88" full canvas. (Rear hoop and front hoop are tubular bottoms - not the flat plated ones - therefore they are the uppermost and bottom hoops in your picture)

I cant see them in the picture, but the full canvas door surrounds attach to the front winscreen by two plates which I am not sure you have fitted. Thy look like this: https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/our-models/series-ii/series-ii-iia/hood-sticks/hood-stick-components/88-109-screen-to-drain-bracket-right-hand.html and also the little brackets that hold the hoops to the cappings to stop them jumping out - although I have never had these fitted and never lost my sticks!

The middle hoops in your picture with the flat plates are the front hoops for 3/4 canvas layout. You seem to have two of these.
You also seem to have two spare longitudinal bars that run front to rear.  :cheers (These are the ones at the side with the two 'ears' half way down their length).

This Hoods and Sticks pdf from a '73 options catalogue should give you a complete choice to pick from.

Cheers TOMSTER :-)  No use to me so ebay it is then. While on the subject of part identification, can you tell me if this is a Series 2 tailgate

.... While on the subject of part identification, can you tell me if this is a Series 2 tailgate

You might struggle for appropriate responses asking about tailgates under a thread title referring to hood hoops.

Just to go against that, this tailgate related thread on the old forum might help, but you would be relying on the detail being correct, and the assumption that the tailgate design changed at the point of S2A introduction. The Series Timeline might be required to give more information on that point.

Looks to me like a S2a tailgate Clive, assuming the other side has the 4 galvanised strips. If the rear side is a full galv sheet then it will be a S3 one.

Smaller filleted corners, 2 bolt hinges and thinner tailgate eyes suggest it is a little later that the 'early' tailgates - I think from around 62 onwards.  :cheers

It's also ex military. Has the hole pattern for mounting the pioneer tools.

Thanks Nathan, so to summarise, that tailgate is a Series 2a Military?

Yes, so a good s2a tailgate then, which, as Nathan says, appears to have had pioneer tools and brackets fitted at some point.
 :cheers
