Are you still allowed these days to say " grow a pair " ;) :neener :whistle :whistle

I just repeatedly throw hot ( not boiling) water over windscreen from a big plastic bottle before driving off when its frosty..clears the inside mist too...( I wouldn't advise doing this on a modern car of any kind tho...)

@Rory
Did you got an alternator or an Dynamo
with Dynamo: not much electric Output for heated Screens
with frontlight and
wipers on
Kind regards

My youngest lad showed me a better version... Run some hot tap-water into a reasonably strong plastic bag. Scrunch it up to make a handle and a "ball" of hot water. Rub over windscreen. A lot less mess and keeps your hands warm.

Have we all got softer since the 1960's ???
Perhaps the end of national service has a lot tp answer for :whistle

Technology has moved on, so why not take advantage ???
Though I have seen a 12v demister, which was basically a coil of wire in a case about 18" long, which would have been placed on top of the dashboard and wired in to clear the screen. Pretty sure that dates back to the 1960s.

I was only in the cadets attached to Duke of Wellingtons but we had to do all that stuff, and at 16 years old that b----y Bren was bigger than me (well , nearly).

Brens are 'orrible heavy lumps, I have huge respect for the blokes that had to lug them half way across Europe..

Robin, I think they date back further than that, I have a couple fitted in my S2

Dont think that having a lovely garage makes things easier. I have a large dry (and cold) brick detached garage for my S2. I open the door and there it is frost free, so I drive it out. Within about 2 minutes, on these damp mornings it is covered in a dew-like mist, on windows and paintwork alike. So I have to clean it off then beetle off up the road to keep it clear.

I don't fit electrically heated screens to get rid of frost. We get so few frosty days here, that it wouldn't be worth the effort and cost just to shift frost.
No siree ...
The electric screens are 100% effective in shifting condensation within a couple of minutes.
If yours is a daily driver, then you'll appreciate electric heated screens. :first
You only have to climb in with wet boots or damp coats (or dogs) and the windows will steam up - but not with heated screens.
I have mine switched independently.
Once the engine is up to temperature the heater can maintain some background heat and with the Rocky Mountain door tops front sliding glass, you can get a little ventilation coming in and clearing humid air (a bit like the old quarter lights).
The other cold/damp dodge I do is I have a small electric fan heater in the back with the thermostat set to come when the temperature falls towards zero.
I can maintain an internal temp of around 9 to 10 degrees C and this keeps all but the worst/coldest frost/snow off all the windows. And it means I get no damp (or mould) inside, everything is nice and dry.
No ice scrapping for me....

I need heated screens to clear frost when needed and condensation and misting up when my Good Wife, me and two damp dogs get in on cold mornings.
