It is actually illegal to use a secondhand replacement chassis on the road as the chassis and it's stamped in number form the unique identity for the vehicle, if DVLA get wind of it you will lose the vehicle.

It is however legal to use parts of a second hand chassis to repair your own but that does not mean that you can weld your driver's dumb iron onto another chassis.

The only legal way forward is to repair your own or rebuild it on a new chassis

It would be nice to know where you are based ???

Vehicle registrations are different in other legislations.

Without your location we all assume you are in the UK and what folks and our VRO have posted holds good here.

You can NOT reuse a 2nd hand chassis to built a vehicle in the UK  :shakeinghead
