I have a swing away spare wheel carrier for a soft top vehicle which is surplus to requirements.

Hi,

Does anybody have piccy of a Pink Panther?

Occasionally I ponder on mounting a "badge bar" hung on the screen fold down bolts, which would take it clear of the wiper blades. Provision to mount a spring back mirror on each end.

It would probably need some experimenting to ensure the door stops prevent the door opening more than 90*.

I've also considered hanging mirrors from a single ladder rail, mounted above the roof, near the front., with pendant mirror arms. But again, the mirror swivels would need to be way in front of the screen. Not impossible!

Back to the drawing board.

Military wolfs in later use had the side mounted spare deleted and rehoused, either on a swing away carrier or moved inside to comply with changing C&U requirements, using 2  or 3 different versions of a conversion kit.

Whether this was just the military being OTT or whether it applies retrospectively I have no idea ??? ???

There were a couple of different kits [that I know of] for blanking off the hole left and to re-arrange the rear lighting depending whether it was hard or soft top, and another part which was a Mantec manufactured swing away rear carrier [not sure if there were different versions of this part of the kit for various models]

The bare  swing away rear carriers are at this moment being offered by Withams auction site [at usually a great cost].
Ramco at Skegness also have one of the types of kit for the rear step, rear lights and replacement short mirror arm in their auction - I don't know which model version.

Hi,

On my SWB S1s, I carried the spare between the rear wheel boxes, with a sheet of 1" thick WBP plywood sitting on a pair 6" x 1" planks "nailed" to the wheel-box sides , giving a full width flat surface.

I was running on 205s on LWB rims, so  height was tight, but just adequate. There was also room for my tool-box, little trolley jack, and other odds and sods, all out of sight.

My two GSDs loved  the unobstructed "half-acre".

PS. Our leader may be able to find a piccy I posted many Yonks ago ... I don't know how to post from Photobucket.
