I have used Guildford Radiators in Cranleigh a couple of times in the past.  Very happy with the work.  My 80" rad was recored by them in 1997 and it's been trouble free ever since.

But do be absolutely clear with yourself and them about exactly what you want.  I told them I was doing a restoration and wanted an original looking core, but not the massive expense of a honeycomb one.  It came back with a hideous modern multifin aluminum core.   :agh  They handled my disappointment very well and replaced the core with a period looking one at no extra charge.  I told them I would let anyone I knew who needed a recore about the modern one they were now stuck with.  I'm happy to say that a short time later I was able to tell someone I met that the core was there for immediate fitting, and they were happy to have a modern one.  So all in all a happy ending all round, and I will certainly go back there next time I need a recored rad.

I have no connection with the company, I'm just a satisfied customer happy to recommend them.

David.

So i've had a couple of prices locally and the best price is £300 including.

I really can't decide at this point if this is value for money  considering a generic britpart one is only £100

What do you guys feel the difference it makes in the engine bay aspect is?

Each to his/her own Moogling, some would lose sleep having that generic rad under the bonnet, some would lose sleep having their wallet lighter by £300  ???

Personally... I think that you eventually forget the price or, some years down the line remember that it was only £300.  However, you’ll always see the generic Britpart radiator...

Just my point of view!

I had a generic Britpart one back when they were 4 core, probably mid 2014. It was ok, but by last year a lot of the fins were rotten and I replaced it with a recored proper flat top one. I hope to get a longer life out of it.
The other thing to consider is that all the new Britpart ones seem to be 3 core, which I had someone at one of the part suppliers insist was original spec, but every original one I have seen has been 4 core.

How original is the rest of the vehicle? If it's pretty original then I wouldn't want to 'spoil the ship for a ha'peth of tar' but if it's pretty altered anyway (S3 engine, uprated seats, a bit of of chequerplate  :agh) then changing the radiator isn't going to make any difference.

Thanks all.

The vehicle is a bit of a bitsa but an oldschool one and was in my wife's  family from new, so is being restored to the spec it was left in rather than factory.

I won't be happy either way, so have decided to go generic to get the vehicle on the road and make it the first upgrade when cash allows!

We're expecting our first born any day now so best just keeping moving otherwise project will almost certainly stall!

I've noticed on some old series Land Rovers, radiators with a honeycomb type core, were these standard up to a date or are they all recores ???

When our 58 triggers broom came to me it had a 1960 flat top rad, I had it recored because it is much more in keeping than a borrible skinny S3 type one.

The flat top rad is better for placing a coffee cup on to keep it warm when stationary in winter after a long run and you need to check under the bonnet. It looks better as well.

Anglia Radiators in Cambridge did a lovely job on mine.  I asked about the possibility of old tanks leaking after repair, but he fits reinforcing plates inside the tank if it's dodgy.  £250 I think it was, back in March.
He had a rebuilt Spitfire radiator sitting in the shop awaiting collection.  And we're not talking Triumph here...

Another one for Anglia Radiators, they were able to patch my rad up after the bonnet slammed down on it when I was using a broom handle instead of the usual bonnet stay, needed the extra opening.  Broom handle fell out, bonnet slammed down and pushed the handle into the rad, not my finest hour.  AR fixed the leak, done in a few days.
