Could be a fuel vapor lock or Icing. If it does it again pull the pipe off the carb and pour some petrol in the carb if it starts that's your problem.  I do Diesel's so a cure will be forth coming from a petrol head.

Carburettor icing? Especially if it's a Weber.

ethanol vapor lock is the most likely cause.  I had exactly the same thing happen about a year ago with my 3.5L V8 110,.  Both trucks had not been driven for a while.  I also have to check the junction of the fuel line at the tank of the 109 for air leak.  Both trucks have been perfect since then.

ethanol vapor lock is the most likely cause.

Hi,

I had something FORD, maybe my Transit, maybe my Cortina, that had constant flow ... tank to carb to tank.

I think when the fuel hit the carb, it had the choice of dropping into the float chamber, and if the float chamber was full, it went back to the tank.

I assume this was to stop the petrol getting too hot, and vapourising. ???? There also seemed to be a switch in the carb to stop fuel being sucked out by the engine "running on".

??? No doubt somebody here can tell what was actually happening?

yes it almost has to be a vapor lock.  All fine now.
