Ot computer question
« on: April 15, 2022, 09:23:14 AM »

Blooming pc on w 10 playing up.
Had a few power cuts recently.

It’s working but no picture.
Display pops up for a second when bootin in bios and for a second when windows asks for a password.
I can type password and hit enter and it competes windows boot up but pretty useless without display.
Hard disc chugging away.
Any ideas please?

I fear all computers are built to fail in 2 or 3 years so you have to buy a new one :shakeinghead

Have you tried function and F8 buttons, this switches between screens.
There is also a way of booting in safe mode, by pressing F8 or escape or maybe F12 when booting.

Dell's are pretty robust bits of kit.
My 2016 Dell laptop is still running fine with Windows 10 - I will upgrade to Windows 11 (When I'm *&%^$) using an emulator.
But it should be good for another 4 or 5 years at least - it's still lightening fast  :first

From Goooooooooooooooooooogle:-

Just hold the Shift key while clicking Power > Restart. If you are trying to enter recovery mode for system restore, you can also search for “restore point” in Windows, and click System Restore... under System Protection tab, then follow the wizard to complete it.

When you get it going make a recovery/repair disc.

Can go on a CD (if you have a CD drive) or onto a USB memory stick.

Using the "Restore Point" is a good habit to get into.
Give them a useful meaningful name - can get you out of jail many times.

If the hard disc is 'chugging away', it could be a hardware issue.

Power down, remove the mains lead. Take out the memory sticks and see if you can boot into BIOS. Remove the hard drive and see if you can boot into BIOS.

If you get the error message 'no memory' or 'no hard disc' you might be getting somewhere.

I’m think I’m sorted.
It has a Illiama 22” monitor .
As said it come us and dissapearsmaffer a second.
I swapped the monitor and the dell is fine .
Prob easiest to assume it’s a dead monitor but a bit frustrating.

Don't forget to make your back-ups and restore points.
