I use Chestnut Registrations  :first

Excellent and speedy service - no problems, plenty of styles to choose from.

Can you confirm their production method Alan ?  The current plates on Tonka are effectively an aluminium pressing with a thinner metal/vinyl (?) black top sheet. With use this top layer is peeling of at multiple points and flapping about in the breeze, despite super-gluing it back several times. Its not looking that good and I'd like to replace both plates. I don't recall who they came from - are the Chestnut plates better made ?

I believe the "cheaper" plates are stamped through a black plastic film.

On mine, so far everything is in place as it was when they were new.

You could always remove the black film, degrease, prime and infill the background with black paint and then polish the raised lettering/numbers.
I have seen cheaper plates peel as you say.

You could always ask them how they do it and what guarantee they offer ???

I was thinking about that "remove film, paint" option.  Its not just a plain bit of vinyl, its actually on a thin sheet of metal....but still peeling :-(

I believe the "cheaper" plates are stamped through a black plastic film.

I think they are all made like this. I got some a few years ago and noticed that the 'printing' process had caused the black film to delaminate slightly. I may be teaching folks to suck eggs here, but before I fitted them, I ensured I had pressed all the black film down full all over the surface of both plates, making sure the film was fully stuck down - and they are still fine now after 20 odd years of use.
