OT - Vacuum cleaner belts
« on: October 31, 2022, 05:17:53 PM »

One of the disadvantages of living in the middle of nowhere is not having any "specialist" shops locally.

I have and old Karcher K25e hand held vac (like a dust devil) that I use for cleaning out my vehicles. The belt has finally broken and apparently are obsolete. Must be something else that will fit. Flat belt, 1cm wide. Diameter just under 60mm. Loads of belts on ebay/Amazon but nobody gives dimensions. Anyone know of a "belt specialist" where you could "browse" ???

Can’t you mackle a belt together for now by folding over and sticking some gaffar tape together?
It’s surprisingly strong stuff.

Either that, or use your tights, a la fanbelt... :tiphat

Have you looked at inverting a toothed belt? Lots available and it gives their size.

It's a shame you don't live near Norwich market.

There's a stall that sells all kinds of belts, bags, hoses for vacuum cleaners.

I managed to get a belt for an obscure bread maker from beltingonline.com

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did try an inverted toothed belt, but they have no "stretch". Some sewing machine belts are very flexy apparently so I will look at them. Yes, a good market stall is probably the best bet, where you can try to match things up. T'internet is not always the best place.

Do you really mean "diameter is just under 60 mm"? Belts are normally measured as the circumference.

Just my calculation, Circumference is 19cm, which I calculate is approx 60mm diameter.

I've just measured my stock of old belts. The nearest is Hoover part no. B38528-503 for a junior hoover and many more old hoovers.
It appears to have an internal circumference of just under 190 mm. It has a width of 11 mm.

The only supplier I could find in a quick search was in Australia, but they must be readily available here I'd have thought. I can't spare mine I'm afraid, I have a working vintage Junior Hoover and want to keep the spare belt.

The ebay entry does warn that measurements taken from an old broken belt are likely to be a bit larger than required, because as they wear just before breaking they get hot and stretch.

Many thanks for that!
Using that info I have found some in the UK.
